#TeenBlogSeries: Foundation and Brow Routine!

Monday, 1 September 2014

Today's post is the second in the #teenblogseries that I am partaking in and it's definitely a good one! Finding a good everyday foundation can be a difficult task but when you get it right, along with a good eyebrow routine, it can really bring the wow factor to your look. That being said, today I'm going to be sharing my own foundation and brow routine and the products that I recommend you check out!

For a very long time, I didn't wear any form of foundation on a daily basis, just simply concealer and powder but fairly recently, I have found a product that has changed that. The Body Shop's Tea Tree Flawless BB Cream is that product! I have tried various other BB creams as alternatives to a foundation whilst still giving some coverage but have always had problems with the colour options being too dark or orange and the formulas being less than desirable! However, I have experienced neither problem with this one. I use the lightest colour which is perfect for all of you fellow pale skinned girls and the formula is lighter than a foundation but it still gives a fair amount of build-able coverage. Another highlight of this BB cream is that it blends so easily but I would say it is best applied with the fingers rather than a brush. Finally, the fact that it contains tea tree oil makes it a perfect match for sometimes blemish prone teenage skin; you can wear face makeup without feeling like you are clogging up your skin! Alone this product is great, but paired with your favourite concealer and powder, you'll be onto a winner!

Now, onto the brows! Having well maintained brows, for me, probably makes the biggest difference in the overall finish of a makeup look but it is also extremely easy for them to go wrong! Ask any girl who has been grooming her brows for a few years and I'm sure she'll have at least one mishap story! To avoid that, if you're new to brows, and unless yours are naturally tidy and shaped (jealous!), I'd recommend getting them threaded or waxed professionally or asking someone else to give you a hand for the first time as over-plucking can happen in the blink of an eye... especially with those deceiving zoomed in beauty mirrors! After that, it's just about finding a shape that you like and are comfortable with and maintaining them. My brows are a little sparse in places so I fill them in but this is totally personal preference! I would highly recommend a powder product for this as it's much more natural and you can use an eyebrow brush to comb the product through easily. There are many products for this but I use a matte eyeshadow colour that is very slightly lighter than my eyebrows; the colour that matches my brows best is from Avon a few years ago but there are many great options around. I know that Sleek do a great little all-in-one brow palette that is really affordable, as well as many other drugstore brands.

Overall, for both foundation and brows, I would say it's all about finding what suits you! Some people love and feel they need a very heavy foundation and others just don't. Similarly with brows, recently the statement brow trend has erupted but equally a natural but well shaped brow can add a classic, clean finish to your look!

The Body Shop Honey Bronze Bronzing Powder Review!

Thursday, 31 July 2014

Until now, bronzers and I have never been a good match, primarily due to my ghostly pale skin but since finding The Body Shop's Honey Bronzer, it has secured a firm place in my daily makeup bag. I first heard about this product a few months ago from Estee at EssieButton, who on a side note you should absolutely check out, as she was a big fan of it and also has pale skin, like me! Despite this, it was only recently that I went in to The Body Shop to check it out and fell in love with everything- the shade offerings, the packaging, the smell (yes!!)...

This bronzer is available in four shades, all of which are matte, ranging from Light to Dark. The fact that they are all matte makes them perfect for contouring the cheek bones without looking like an old-school disco ball and the light, semi-sheer formulation means that you can build up the colour without it looking muddy at all. The powder itself is soft and leaves a gentle colour on the skin which looks delicate and lovely. Another point with these are that they aren't orange at all, a problem that I have encountered with most other bronzers that I have tried in the past. I have this in the shade Fair Matte 02 which isn't the lightest option, yet I still find it to be perfect for contouring and general bronzing of the face and neck, especially if you are on the paler side.

The packaging of this bronzer is just as lovely with the bronzer being housed in a sturdy transparent brown case with a subtle honeycomb print. It also includes a good sized mirror, making it perfect for 'on-the-go' touch ups!

My last favourite about this product is the subtle honey scent. Although this isn't evident when the product is on your skin and is even quite soft when in the pan, I think it's a nice touch that The Body Shop have added and I would definitely be interested in trying some of the other products in the honey line.

Overall, I am a huge fan of this bronzer and I have definitely been converted! I think The Body Shop have really amped it up on the cosmetics front recently and I will be doing a blog post featuring my favourite beauty products from this brand in the near future. If you are interested in trying this product out, it is priced at a mid-range price of £13 and is available in-store and at http://www.thebodyshop.co.uk/make-up/bronzing/honey-bronze-bronzing-powder.aspx.

PS. I bought this product and others using a deal from the app Voucher Cloud which meant that when you spent £30, you got a £15 discount. This exact offer has now finished but I have checked and a 'spend £40 and get £20 off' offer has been added so I would definitely recommend checking out the Voucher Cloud website and app!

Have a lovely evening,
